Protecting Wild Salmon & Steelhead in California’s Smith River

The first time I saw the Smith River I was blown away. I didn’t even know I was about to encounter it, but a friend and I were on a road trip and had just left to Oregon Caverns that morning. We were excited to get to the Pacific coast, having left from New York a month before, but had to stop to take in this amazing water and throw a couple casts! We caught a few fingerlings on dry flies, but really need to go back and fish this water properly. It is truly a stunning part of the world and deserves our fullest protection.
