British professional golfer Darren Clarke, who is playing in what will probably be his final Masters this weekend, is a huge fly fisherman who recently caught a 38 pound permit in Abaco, the Bahamas – a very impressive fish by anyone’s standards. The permit was caught on a shrimp pattern, and took 90 minutes to land.
Darren Clarke, OBE, was born in Northern Ireland and knighted as Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to golf. His career began in 1990, and had many remarkable successes for the next 25 years of golf. Apparently, he also made time for fishing as well.
In the Bahamas, Darren is the world ambassador for the Abaco Club, who’s representative told Amberjack that “Darren is at The Masters right now, but I’m pretty sure he’d rather be fishing.” We know who we’re rooting for.
