About an hour outside of Bozeman, Montana, this river is known for holding large quantities of big trout. It is also known as a popular float tube site during the warmer months of summer. It’s accessibility and scenery make it one of the more popular rivers in Montana and the American west.
Give up? It’s the Madison River. This photo was taken by our editor Alex Ford during a 6 week fishing road trip out west. He had camped out by somewhere outside of Ennis the night before, and took this picture the following afternoon on his way back to Bozeman. A big hail storm was rolling in through the canyon, and this photo stop caused Alex to get caught up in the middle of it.
